5 tips to keep your gut healthy during exams

As exam days draw near, our diet and gut health often take a back seat. As a result, we eat anything easy that takes little time, or we're so stressed about the exam that we give up eating meals altogether and eat only when we're too hungry to continue studying. Your exam performance will suffer as a result of these habits!

5 tips to keep in mind during these stressful times.

1. No fried food

We know it's tasty, but it's not good for your health or mind!

  • It'll lead to weight gain

  • It'll make you feel nauseous as oily food is difficult to digest and indigestion will follow

  • Since it's difficult to digest, your body will redirect all resources to your gut to aid digestion, leaving you with reduced attention and focus.

  • This could cause tummy upset, which can also affect our ability to study.

2. Have coffee (Don't overdo it)

Having 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day is good.

  • In addition to reducing tiredness and fatigue, caffeine stimulates the Central Nervous System (CNS) and will improve concentration and memory

  • It also increases your metabolism and helps you feel more active

That being said, the good effects of coffee are negated by sleep deprivation that makes your brain sluggish, so drinking jugs of black coffee to stay up and study all night is a really bad idea.

More than 1-2 cups a day will lead to more harm than good and is really not worth it.

So, enjoy your cup of coffee, just don't overdo it please.

3. Eat more veggies and fibers

Eating more veggies and fibers is a great way to keep your gut healthy.

  • It will keep you full and satiated, so you can focus on your studies

  • During your preparation, it will support the health of your gut flora

  • It will ensure your body gets enough vitamins and minerals to keep your mind sharp

  • It will keep you energetic all day

4. Eat Curd

Yes, we love curd.

  • It will keep your tummy soothed

  • It will provide good bacteria for your gut

  • As it's not fattening, you can eat and feel full without worrying about weight gain

  • It will provide you with many essential vitamins

5. Drink a lot of water

It's important to stay hydrated and in times of stress, becomes even more important. When we study, our brain is very very active and many chemical reactions are occurring every second. Guess what all of them need, yes - water. Do not let the stress of completing your syllabus deter you from staying hydrated, your body will thank you.

Following these tips will help you stay healthy, energetic and ready to face the exams in top form.
