Are you sure or at least doubtful that your acne is fungal acne?
Learn What is Fungal acne and how to identify Fungal acne here.
Have you tried multiple acne medications without clearing of those small bumps on skin?
Yes.
Do you think considering At-home treatment for fungal acne is alright? Or Is the fungal acne mild and not severe enough to need medical attention?
Yes.
Here are 5 ways to treat ‘Fungal Acne’ at home :
[Note : It’s always best to visit a dermatologist for any skin condition.]
1. Try over-the-counter (OTC) fungal medications
Ointment, creams, gels with 1-2% Ketoconazole applied at least once everyday on washed & dried skin. Lotions or creams with pyrithione zinc or selenium sulfide.

2. Washing with an anti-fungal facewash or anti-dandruff shampoo
Yes, a shampoo will work too.
But --- Kindly avoid shampoos which have “clean” ingredients in anti-dandruff shampoos like ‘Ginger’ Shampoo or ‘Tea-tree oil’ Shampoo.
Specifically use the anti-dandruff shampoos with 2% Ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, pyrithione zinc in it (Like Nizoral Shampoo).
Wet your face >> Gently rub the shampoo or facewash in circular motion for 30 seconds >> Let it stay for 1-2 minutes >> Wash off with warm water >> Apply a gel based very light moisturizer.
-Avoiding heavy moisturizers or creams is a good idea, unless you have associated other skin issues like flaky skin, dry patches, psoriasis, etc.
-Avoid using facewashes that are too drying or too oily.

3. What to wear/Use –
Wear light coloured, loose, cotton or linen clothing.
Use one-time-use light surgical masks instead of heavy cotton reusuable masks.
Use a hat for sun-protection.
Use washed and cleaned cotton or satin pillow covers & do not share them with anyone. Wash daily or on alternate days
Use cleaned cotton handkerchief to dry face post facewash – avoid towels which are more likely to cause friction/infection. Do not share it with anyone.

4. Shower every time you sweat –
Post gym or yoga, cooking or travelling in the heat , wash your body or at least your face/fungal acne prone areas.
Ideally, using a anti-fungal body wash is recommended.

5. Eat a balanced diet with less sugar and more protein/fibres –
Fungi like yeast grow rapidly in sugar rich conditions.
Include minimum refined sugar, adequate carbohydrate and ample proteins, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Note : If you have attempted anti-fungal treatments at home using over-the-counter products & preventive measures for 3 weeks and still feel the bumpy skin and itchiness. Visit a dermatologist – prescription strength topical (over the skin) or oral anti-fungal drugs.
