I am Dr.Oela and I am here to kick off #BodyPositiveSunday with a post that is close to my heart.

Curls are Love

(This is me about 6 months back, a few months after starting curly hair routine)

Ever since I was a little girl I had curly hair which my mother would tie up tight into two ponytails along with the cutest ribbons or bands and naturally had so many nicknames growing up.

“Maggi” “Question mark” “Noodles” to name a few.

I was a happy child busy playing around with not a care in the world.

The story becomes a tad sad once I grew up.Once I reached High school,I would brush my hair like everyone does, unaware of the “Curly Girl Method” that’s so lit now - ended up having super frizzy and unmanageable hair.

Frizzy dry hair
The frizz was real. Even after straightening, I had puff ball on my head within just a few hours.

Tried several products,in vain.Later I used hair straighteners very often in medical college and was complemented which only made the use more and my hair worse! My friends would ask me to permanently straighten my hair, some would say it looked like a broom and others would say ‘Oh you look pretty but the hair though!’.

The worse was that I myself, hated my hair - the way it looked and felt. :(

Very recently, I came across the Curly girl Method, popularly known as CGM and it changed the way I think of my hair.

I love my hair now. I wear it open or tie it up my way and feel confident.

What I want to say is, I was different and unique in my own way all along. It’s only after I learnt to take care of them and accepted the way they are, that I got over pitying my own hair.

EVERY KIND OF HAIR WITH ITS OWN TEXTURE,COLOUR OR LENGTH IS BEAUTIFUL. CURLS ARE LOVE! So is straight hair & everything in between :)
